Personal Information

T. Aoki is Professor of structural engineering from 2011 at Graduate School of Design & Architecture, Nagoya City University. Graduated in Architectural Engineering (1984), Toyohashi University of Technology. Overseas education (scholarship) at University of Florence (1986-87). Doctoral degree in “Structural Characteristics and Construction Methods of the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore” (1991), The University of Tokyo. Research Associate from 1988 at Nagasaki University, Assistant Professor from 1994 at Miyagi National College of Technology, and Associate Professor from 1998 at Nagoya City University. Visiting professor at University of Florence, Turin Polytechnic and University of Catania. Visiting scholar at University of Padua within the Erasmus-Mundus Project, financed by the EU (2008 and 2011). Lecturer in several graduate courses and post-graduate courses at Nagoya City University. Holder of Research projects granted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) on Cultural Heritage (Santa Sofia in Costantinopoli; 1992-1997, Santuario di Vicoforte and L’Hangar per dirigibili di Augusta; 2002-03 and 2006-08, Sant’Agostino, San Silvestro e Torre Civica in L’Aquila; 2010-2014), and by several foundations in Japan. Principal investigator on these research projects, leading researchers with wide variety of interests from different universities and institutes. Editorial Board of International Journal of Architectural Heritage. Member of WG-17 (Historical Structures) of IASS (International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures) and expert member of International Scientific Committee on the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage (ISCARSAH), International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). A member of the L’Aquila earthquake’s delegation from the Japanese Government. Awarded by the Japan Concrete Institute on “Study on Mechanical Characteristics of Mortar Used For Hagia Sophia and Some Related Structures”.
